:: Neutral Current Eliminator & Combined Neutral Current Eliminator:: [back to menu]
The use of computers, UPS systems, fluorescent lighting and other single phase (in addition to three phase) non linear loads have led to major concerns over the harmonic voltage distortion of building power distribution systems, including excessively high neutral currents. Areas of particular concern include call and data centres, financial institutions, major banks, TV and radio studios, airports and hospitals.

The ‘Eliminator’ series of electro-magnetic filters addresses all five symptoms of harmonics by offloading neutral conductors, lower cable losses, reducing distribution transformer temperatures, reducing neutral to earth (ground) voltages, improving power factor and reducing voltage distortion.

The patented NCE (Neutral Current Eliminator™), now available in ratings up to 1200A, diverts the third harmonic current and other ‘triplens’ away, which would otherwise flow in the neutral conductor and upstream transformer, back into the three phases of the load whilst balancing all three phases. An important, patented option for the NCE is the ‘field adjustable impedance’ (FAI) which has two settings, ‘normal’ and ‘high impedance’. In the ‘normal’ setting the magnitude of triplen neutral current flowing through to device is uncontrolled. In the ‘high impedance’ setting the triplen neutral current is limited, thus ensuring problem-free commissioning on systems where multiple NCE are required. The FAI option is not available from other manufacturers.
It is appreciated that in many applications it is also necessary to treat the 5th and 7th and other harmonics. The patented Combined Neutral Current Eliminator™ which combines the filtering of the NCE with a 30 degrees phase shifting for cancellation of 5th and 7th harmonic currents.

The NCE and CNCE are frequently used together on many applications – refer to Eliminator™ Technical Manual by clicking on the link below. NCE and CNCE are both fully CE marked for EMC and LV, and CSA and UL approved.
